9:15am Departure from Barcelona

My village is totally off the tourist radar, yet very easy to access from most of the places in Catalonia. There is an easy 45 minutes train ride to get there from Barcelona and I guarantee you it is worth the trip! (clear instructions on how to get there will be provided to you upon booking).
Prepare yourself for a very authentic wine and cava experience! Are you ready for it?
2

10:05am Meeting at the train station

In this Penedes wine tour, you will not only taste the finest wine and cava of Catalonia in a bucolic setting and in a small group tour, you will also get to know the real people beside the cava and wine production in the Penedes area.
After meeting with me, we will find you a fit bike and helmet and get you started for the tour!
3

10:15am Beginning of the Penedes Wine Tour

In the morning, I will take you on a relaxed cycling tour and introduce you to the beautiful vineyards and peach trees of my postcard village. I’m the fourth generation of winemaker in my family, which will give us plenty to talk about during the tour.
And since my Penedes Wine Tour will take us in my village and around, I will be able to show you all the secret places and amazing landscapes on the way to the wineries, as well as telling you about the history of wines from the Penedes.
I will then take you to the first organic winery, where a guided visit and first wine tasting of the day will be awaiting us.
4

1:00pm Gastronomic lunch

In between both wineries, we will ride to a locals only restaurant for a fantastic gastronomic menu. Prepare to indulge in traditional Catalan gastronomy paired with delightful local wines from small producers (if you have any food intolerance simply add a request when booking).
5

2:30pm Second Winery visit

In the afternoon we will ride to the second winery. Note that one of the two wineries will be a very small winery while the other will be a more established mid-size “boutique” winery. Both of them are family run and offering fantastic cavas and wines, produced only in very small quantities.
You will have a tasting of at least 2 organic wines in each winery. There will be at least 2 organic cavas to taste during the day to make sure you do not miss out on one of Catalonia’s culinary wonders.
6

4:55pm End of the Penedes Wine Tour

After leaving the bikes, I will take you to the train station and guide you to your train.
7

5:45pm Arrival in Barcelona

You will arrive in Barcelona full of great memories! Note: the tour is accessible from most places in Catalonia and especially easy to reach from the south and west of Barcelona.
Sustainable transport logo I Barcelona Slow Travel

Public transport (train) is hardly recommended to get to the starting point. The tour is then realised on bicycle, or on e-bike for people that should need one to avoid using a car.

Local food logo I Barcelona Slow Travel

All the wine tastings will be from the local wineries visited. The food served for lunch is always traditional, and most of the ingredients are sourced straight from small, local producers.

Organic logo I Barcelona Slow Travel

All the wineries visited during the tour are organic.

Homemade logo I Barcelona Slow Travel

The guide, the wineries and the restaurant all have strict policies of recycling. All the plastic, glass and paper waste produced is recycled. Non-recycled waste for this activity is close to 0.

Albert has been impulsing a project of connecting enotourism in his region to bike (and e-bike) visit. In an area where everyone uses cars, he developed a system to promote the use of bicyles. He has been able to install a bike rental in a train station, and he’s actually impulsing a project of connecting solar panels to the train station to provide renewable energy for the e-bikes.

This review is long, long over due. It was absolutely the highlight of our trip. I was traveling with my son and we had a series of transportation issues the morning of our Penende Wine Tour. Frantically we called Albert fearing we missed the tour. Albert was incredibly calm and accommodating. He figured it all out so we could join our tour without any interruptions to the other guests. The day far exceeded our expectations. I’ve been on many wine tours over the years and didn’t expect to learn as much as I did at these fabulous wineries. The choice of wineries were different and thoughtfully selected. The lunch …. I don’t even know where to start. The food was wonderful, all local and fresh. We had such a fun day and would highly recommend this trip. I’d do this tour again in a heartbeat. Albert, your kindness that day was not forgotten. Thank you, Donna & Peder

Wish I had booked two tours!

We spent the week of Christmas in Barcelona and my family of five (three grown young men age 20 plus) will say that the day we spent with Albert in the Penendes Wine region learning about the organic wines and cavas was their favorite day of all. Albert’s communication, organization and knowledge was superior. There was not a question he could not answer most thoroughly. The biking was fun, even for 60 year olds and not too strenuous if one is in a bit of shape. My three boys were thoroughly intrigued with the information and completely entertained by Albert and the other most gracious hosts at the vineyards and local restaurant where we were all served more than gracious plenty of delicious, local tapas.

Originally, I was concerned about booking this trip in December but then I read a review from another family of five from last December confirming that it was a wonderful trip. Thanks to that review, I booked our trip, so I want to reconfirm that our weather was perfect and a light weight vest was all that was needed.

Over the years we have found that biking and bike tours are the most interesting way to learn about the area as one is able to cover more ground than walking but still feel connected to the surroundings. This Slow Barcelona Tour, however, has added yet another layer. Going forward, we will try to find more local tours, run by people who are passionate about their area just like Albert. We, too, were so engaged, that we missed our train and Albert insisted on driving us to the next town to catch a train that ran more frequently rather than have us wait.

I am thrilled that we and my three boys will always look at a Spanish wine or cava ( especially the organic ones) from the area and have a personal knowledge about it.
Albert, many thanks for a day we will cherish and all the best to you, your family and your partner as your business grows!

My only regret of the week is that we did not go ahead and book the Market and cooking tour as well!
