What to Expect at your Private Calçotada experience
Are you ready for a unique Catalan experience? Our private calçotadas in Barcelona are a perfect way to discover this Catalan delicacy, which is only available from late January to early April. The Calçotada experience takes place on a family-run farm focused on regenerative agriculture, just outside Barcelona. After being picked up from your hotel, you’ll begin the day with a short visit of the farm and a hands-on calçot harvest with the farmer, to see how calçots are grown and learn about what makes them so special. After the harvest, you and your group will gather around the fire to prepare the calçots in the traditional way; barbecued over an open flame. Discover the secret to a perfectly cooked calçot and how to eat them like the locals do, peeling away the charred outer leaves and dangling the sweet inner part into your mouth. The farmer, who also produces his own charcuterie, grills his homemade botifarra sausages on the same embers used for the calçots — exactly as it is done locally. Then the full calçotada meal is shared in a relaxed, informal setting and includes calçots, botifarra and a small selection of grilled meats. Everything is paired with local organic wine, enjoyed using a porró, the traditional Catalan wine pitcher. You’ll learn how to use it, pouring wine into your mouth without touching the spout, and without spilling it (with enough practice)! This experience is a must for foodies & farm to table lovers, highly recommended for families, couples, group of friends and even teams looking for something really unique & connected to the land to do in Barcelona.
Notes
Set in a beautiful natural environment, this is an informal and fun experience, getting you up close with the Catalan local life. The calçotada experience is fully hands-on. You'll get to participate in each step of the process. From picking calçots to cooking and eating with the farmer. You'll get your hands dirty, your shoes dirty and have one of the best times of your holidays in Spain. You'll not only support the local life, you'll also see where the food comes from and how it's been grown organically. This is a real cultural and human experience, and we highly recommend it to families, groups of friends and couples that want a truly unique food experience in Barcelona. This private calçotada experience can also be offered to companies (up to 24 people).

What they say about this experience:
"Two friends and I spent 2 amazing weeks in Spain. We experienced a country of gorgeous sights, beautiful people and fun adventures, and we all agreed that our Farm to Table experience with Barcelona Slow Travel was the best day of our trip. From the right on time pick up, the great people we met and the wonderful food and gorgeous location to dine, it was literally a perfect day. Many thanks for providing an experience we loved and will never forget. ~Joan M. "This was a day that we were looking forward to for a long time and still it exceeded our expectations. It was amazing to have such a tender, authentic visit with the farmers and the farmhouse where we did the cooking felt like heaven. I wish we could have spent more of our days in Barcelona with our guide. He was such a comfortable person to be with and it was delightful to participate in the relationships he had with the farmers. The food we made was incredible and the whole process is something I will remember forever." ~Kathryn B. "If you want a quality, interesting, and personable experience this is the cooking class for you! This Farm to Table experience is AMAZING!! Meeting with local farmers and picking our produce for our meal was the real deal. They were welcoming and genuinely excited to share their farming experience. They then provided the best light breakfast of wine, cheeses and bread. Our guide worked tirelessly to ensure our conversation and questions were understood and explained… He seemed to anticipate all our needs from “farm hats” in the fields to interpreting the entire day, so all parties understood and helped the conversation flow. The meal using our bounty from the farm, was expertly prepared by our chef Cristian at his home/restaurant. We assisted in the preparation, and instantly felt at home and welcome. Amazing meal, Amazing farm visit and Amazing guide. Certainly something to remember!" ~ Judy B. "A lovely experience, from the very start to the very end. Everything just went so smoothly, which is probably what we wish for most on vacation. Beyond the cooking instruction, we were able to take in so much about the land, history, and culture. I also appreciated the easy vegan accommodation!" ~Laina B.
