DESCRIPTION

If you’re into great wines, good food and discovering local life, you’ll love our private Penedes Wine Tour. We’ll take you to 2 small boutique organic wineries producing renowned, small-batch wines in the heart of the locals’ favorite wine area, “El Penedes”. Together with your guide, an expert in finding fantastic, small and undiscovered wineries, you’ll spend a wonderful day tasting signature wines. And you’ll get to know the real people behind the cava and wine production in the Penedes wine region.

The Penedes wine area is located only 30 minutes drive away from Barcelona and is home to over 300 wine producers, thus offering a large variety of wines to be discovered. Your wine journey will include a selection of incredible premium cavas, red, whites, roses or the ancestral, a century-old sparkling white wine reflecting the great tradition of wine in Catalonia. In total, no less than 8 tastings of the finest organic, small-batch wines and cava are included in this private Barcelona wine tour.

For lunch, we’ll take you to a local’s only restaurant to indulge in traditional flavors. Prepare to feast like never before! We sometimes met friendly, influent winemakers of the area over lunch. We obviously can’t guarantee this will happen every time but we can guarantee you the meal will make it to the highlights of your day!

All the wineries we’ll take you to are always small, organic and family-run. And all the visits will always be fully private and run by the winery owner or the winemaker him/herself, not just with any guide. Above all, we’ll always make sure you get an authentic and personalized experience you won’t find in any of the large-scale tour companies. In conclusion, expect to meet great people and to taste fabulous wines, most of them elaborated using indigenous grapes.

This private Penedes wine tour is definitely a must for all those who wish to enjoy a unique high-end local food and wine experience, far off the tourist radar. As with all our other experiences, we have very limited availabilities. Make sure to request (and book) well in advance!

Both wineries offer local wines, most of them being made from local grapes. The food served at the restaurant is local and seasonal and the dishes are made following traditional Catalan recipes.

Organic logo I Barcelona Slow Travel

All the wineries we visit in our Penedes Wine Tour are certified organic. The restaurants we go to offer local and seasonal ingredients mostly sourced from local artisans. Some of the ingredients are organic, although not all of them (we’re pressing them to add more to the menu, but it takes time!).

The guide, the wineries and the restaurant all have strict policies of recycling. All the plastic, glass and paper waste produced is recycled. Non-recycled waste in this Barcelona wine tour is close to 0.

Highlight of our month in Europe and a wonderful way to complete our trip. If we had more time left on our trip I would definitely book in for the cooking class.

We visited two wineries and it was great to spend time unhurried allowing time to have great conversations with a winemaker Pep and Marta from the second winery after lunch.

We almost didn’t make the tour as I booked a babysitter for our toddler on the wrong day. I emailed Guillermo to inform we couldn’t take the tour at short notice & Guillermo came up with the solution of Cristina being our babysitter so we didn’t miss this experience. We are so grateful!!! And my daughter had her first swim in the Mediterranean with Cristina. I wanted to add this to my review so anyone reading this can appreciate they are very nice people who go above and beyond to ensure you have a great experience and memories.

Guillermo – we enjoyed everything about the tour you prepared for us, your conversation and all that you shared with us about your personal values regarding food, sustainable living, farm to table and general outlook.

Thank you for an incredible day. We genuinely hope to see you again when we find ourselves back in this region. All the very best to you and Cristina.

Amazing Experience!
I don’t normally write reviews, especially glowing ones, but our one-day experience with Barcelona Slow Travel visiting wineries just outside of Barcelona was the highlight of our trip. This customized tour included wine tastings, behind the scenes tours, and visiting with knowledgeable staff. Attention to detail was obvious, including a fabulous three course lunch. If you are in Barcelona, you have to spend a day, or multiple days, with Barcelona Slow Travel. It is worth every penny.

This review is long, long over due. It was absolutely the highlight of our trip. I was traveling with my son and we had a series of transportation issues the morning of our Penedes Wine Tour. Frantically we called Barcelona Slow Travel fearing we missed the tour. Our guide was incredibly calm and accommodating. He figured it all out so we could join our tour. The day far exceeded our expectations. I’ve been on many wine tours over the years and didn’t expect to learn as much as I did at these fabulous wineries. The choice of wineries was different and thoughtfully selected. The lunch …. I don’t even know where to start. The food was wonderful, all local and fresh. We had such a fun day and would highly recommend this trip. I’d do this tour again in a heartbeat. Albert, your kindness that day was not forgotten. Thank you, Donna & Peter

Wish I had booked two tours!

We spent the week of Christmas in Barcelona and my family of five (three grown young men age 20 plus) will say that the day we spent with Albert in the Penendes Wine region learning about the organic wines and cavas was their favorite day of all. Albert’s communication, organization and knowledge was superior. There was not a question he could not answer most thoroughly. The biking was fun, even for 60 year olds and not too strenuous if one is in a bit of shape. My three boys were thoroughly intrigued with the information and completely entertained by Albert and the other most gracious hosts at the vineyards and local restaurant where we were all served more than gracious plenty of delicious, local tapas.

Originally, I was concerned about booking this trip in December but then I read a review from another family of five from last December confirming that it was a wonderful trip. Thanks to that review, I booked our trip, so I want to reconfirm that our weather was perfect and a light weight vest was all that was needed.

Over the years we have found that biking and bike tours are the most interesting way to learn about the area as one is able to cover more ground than walking but still feel connected to the surroundings. This Slow Barcelona Tour, however, has added yet another layer. Going forward, we will try to find more local tours, run by people who are passionate about their area just like Albert. We, too, were so engaged, that we missed our train and Albert insisted on driving us to the next town to catch a train that ran more frequently rather than have us wait.

I am thrilled that we and my three boys will always look at a Spanish wine or cava ( especially the organic ones) from the area and have a personal knowledge about it.
Albert, many thanks for a day we will cherish and all the best to you, your family and your partner as your business grows!

My only regret of the week is that we did not go ahead and book the Market and cooking tour as well!

This was the ultimate, one-day, tour experience. The Penedes wine country is beautiful, the family-run wineries we visited are authentic and produce only premium cavas and wines, and the winery owners and associates who conduct the in-depth tours and tastings are passionate and hospitable. And the accompanying tapas lunch was a sensory feast beyond anything one would imagine encountering. Albert – our tour guide – was unbelievable; his knowledge, passion and charm were off the charts. This had to be our favorite tour of all time, and the best travel value we have ever experienced (the tapas cooking experience that we did with Barcelona Slow Travel would be a close second). If you are going to be in the Barcelona area for a couple of days or longer, this tour has to be #1 on your agenda of things to do. It is simply a fantastic experience that you can’t get anywhere else.

Fantastic guide, georgeous cava, beautiful scenery, interesting stories&history, delicious food experience, easy bike ride (especially with E).
A remarkable one-day tour I recommend to everybody who intends to come home from Barcelona with a unique experience.

We booked our Penedes wine tour before heading to Barcelona after seeing the tour on Barcelona Slow Travel’s website (we also booked the tapas cooking class). We had a terrific day!! The weather was crisp so the initial ride up the hills and through the vineyards was a great warm up. For the e-bikers in the group they cruised up with ease while the rest of us earned our tasting after we arrived at the beautiful Albet I Noya winery. Anna, our personable and knowledgable host, gave us a very informative tour and shared with us the winery’s storied history while we sampled some terrific wines. We then had a short downhill trip to a wonderful traditional local meal. Our hosts were extremely gracious and seemed to enjoy our group as much as we enjoyed the food and their hospitality. After lunch, we had a fast downhill trip to the Guilera cava winery. Marta, our fourth generation host, gave us a tour and shared the family’s history of making cava in the traditional manner. The cava we tasted was superb and a fitting way to finish our day. Albert our guide, founder and owner of the experience could not have been more friendly, knowledgeable and personable. He shared with us a great deal about the history of the Penedes region, the wineries and wine makers. His passion for wine, sustainablilty, and care for the comfort of his clients was clear. We had a truly great experience and would highly recommend this trip as a way to enjoy the wines of the region. The ride was very manageable if you like to cycle and the e-bikes were terrific if you want to relax the whole way. We can’t recommend this trip more highly!

What a good idea visiting cavas by bicycles,or, better yet, by electric bicycles which are particularly convenient for a relaxing trip through wonderful countryside.
Meeting the owners in their properties is an unforgettable experience, which enhances the pleasure of tasting delicious wines of various “cépages” produced in a sustainable way.

We booked the Barcelona Slow Travel Penedes wine tour prior to heading to Barcelona and we were NOT disappointed!! The train ride to go to the area was cool and then we met David, Albert’s assistant. He was very knowledgeable about the area, the wine and Spain in general. We biked through the vineyards (get the eBikes, WAY worth it!). Our guide stopped along the way to explain about the vines and how to grow them plus many more details on the Penedes region. We then stopped at a small family run vineyard to sample wine and learn about wine making. That was incredible. And just when we thought that it could not get any better; it actually did! We went down the road to a quiet village of 600+ and had the absolute BEST tapas lunch. It went on forever. In the afternoon we visited another vineyard and the wine maker showed us a larger batch wine making (and we did more sampling). Sadly then we went back to Barcelona as this was the end of the tour… By all means…DO THIS TOUR IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE!! You won’t be disappointed. Ask for David or Albert so as to make sure you have an incredible experience.

This was one of the most magical days we had in our 40 years of traveling (and that includes several visits to Barcelona). It is a classic “words cannot convey” experience, riding through the famed Penedes wine producing region with Albert, an expert guide (indeed, from a fourth generation wine and cava producing family). Albert was, without exception, the most knowledgeable and affable guide we’ve had the pleasure of meeting and touring with, thoroughly familiar with the local wineries, the wine producing traditions of the Penedes, and simply one of the most cordial, considerate, helpful and fun person we’ve ever met.

And the tour, let’s put it simply: it was truly excellent!

We had a long and wonderful day, that left us with intensely fond memories of not only the people but also the land of the Penedes. We hope to be able soon to return and spend more time exploring this wonderful region.

Moltes grácies Albert for making it possible for us to experience the wineries and the towns of the Subirat area and Penedes region in a way not possible by any other means! It was truly a day we will never forget!!

During our 12 day trip to Barcelona me and my boyfriend wanted to get out of the city for a day and chose the Penedes Wine Tour. The booking was very smooth.
The tour was really well planned, we really loved Albert’s selection of vineyards. Everything was perfect and it ended up being our favorite day of the trip! We really appreciated visiting one larger vineyard producing a larger selection of wines and then another one much smaller, much more like a boutique vineyard specialized solely in cavas. It really was a great balance.

Albert was absolutely incredible! He was extremely passionate and knowledgeable and allowed us t learn so much. He was also very accommodating along the way. The tour included a delicious lunch with a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains. Overall, I thought the tour was an insanely good value for everything that was included.
If you are considering doing a wine tour, then definitely book this one through Barcelona Slow Travel! The best of the best in authentic experiences!!

We’re so happy we had the chance to do the Penedes Wine Tour. IT IS A MUST DO! This all day bike and wine tour took us 45 minutes outside of Barcelona. We went with the local train to the countryside and Albert, our guide, met us right at the train stop. Very easy!
We biked through BEAUTIFUL Spanish wine country. This was a DREAM! The weather was gorgeous, the terrain beautiful. Albert is an amazing guide! We had so much fun! We visited two beautiful family run wineries, and we had an amazing lunch between the 2 wineries. It felt like a very special experience. I’m ready to go back whenever I can! Anyone traveling to Barcelona NEEDS to try it out, venture outside the city and do this tour.

15 October, 2015

The wine and bike tour was perfect! We got to see the wonderful wine region in an active and intimate way. We went to two different vineyards. The first one was Albert’s family vineyard. There was no pressure to purchase and were welcomed into their space with open arms. We learnt a lot about growing and harvesting the grapes, as well as making the wine. We then hadto a traditional tapas lunch at a small local restaurant. Holy geez… the food we had there was probably one of the BEST tapas meals we had while in Barcelona. The waiter just kept bringing more food. And for dessert, the chocolate praline almonds… oh the almonds. Almost all of us on the tour ended up purchasing some to take home.

28 September, 2015

Albert, our tour guide, was friendly and knowledgable. He picked us up from the train station in his van and immediately offered us some grapes from the area to try! He was really meticulous in ensuring that we were comfortable with our helmets and bicycles. We then rode through the small town and Albert entertained us with snippets of grape cultivating details and helped us take beautiful pictures. The first visit was to a small winery where we tried their cava and red wine. The lunch was a real gastronomic experience, the tapas were absolutely delicious, the wine tasty and the company really enjoyable. FYI dessert was a real treat. Those tiny chocolate almond snack were so good we even bought some from the shop. The second visit in the afternoon was to a larger, more established winery. There we had cava, white and red wines. Even though we missed the harvesting season it still was the best day we had in Barcelona. If you are looking for a more personal and authentic experience, go for this!
